What makes Vanaway products different?
Vanaway is designed for real life on the road — practical, durable and stylish. Our dinnerware is made from recycled materials, our mugs keep drinks hot or cold for hours, and our map stickers are built to survive the Aussie sun.
What are your dinnerware sets made from?
Our dinnerware is made from high-quality, Food Grade, BPA-free, non-toxic, recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET and natural binding agents) - in simple terms - recycled water bottles and soda bottles. They’re lightweight, drop-proof, kid-friendly and perfect for caravanning and camping.
Why is your dinnerware so much more expensive than regular plastic?
Our dinnerware isn’t made from cheap, low-grade plastic. Each piece is crafted from rPET, a high-quality, BPA-free material made by recycling post-consumer plastic bottles. These bottles are collected, cleaned, broken down into flakes, melted into pellets, then transformed into durable, food-safe dinnerware. This process reduces waste, lowers environmental impact, and gives new life to plastic that would otherwise end up in landfill.
Producing rPET is far more involved than producing regular plastic. It requires extra steps in sorting, sanitising, and reforming the material to meet strict food-safety and durability standards.
The result is dinnerware that’s stronger, safer, longer-lasting, beautiful on your table, and kinder to the planet. It’s an investment in quality and sustainability rather than a short-term disposable option.
Why is your dinnerware considered eco-friendly?
Our dinnerware is made from rPET, a material created by recycling post-consumer plastic bottles. Instead of producing new plastic, we give existing plastic a second life. This reduces waste, lowers energy use and keeps bottles out of landfill, oceans and the Australian outdoors we all love and respect as campers.
Because we use recycled materials rather than virgin plastic, the environmental footprint is significantly smaller.
All of this makes our dinnerware a cleaner, greener choice for caravans, camping and everyday family meals.
How to care for my dinnerware set best?
Simply wash after each use, avoid harsh scrubbers, avoid using sharp utensils and treat them kindly for ling term use.
Is your dinnerware microwave safe?
Yes — they are microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe and freezer-safe.
Will colours look exactly like the product photos?
Colours may vary slightly due to lighting, screen configuration and natural variations in recycled materials. We do not edit product colours.
Is the dinnerware heavy?
Not at all. 8pc set weighs 1.4kg, 16pc is 2.8kg and 24pc is 4.2kg.
Is the dinnerware drop-proof?
It's incredibly durable. We like to say that it is not indestructible... but it is "kid-friendly tough" making it the perfect dinnerware set for camping life. Yes, it is drop proof.
Can the dinnerware scratch?
Yes, superficial scratching may occur over time from sharp metal utensils. This is classed as normal wear tear due to the nature of the materials. This does not affect performance.
What are the mugs made from?
Double wall insulated Premium 304 stainless steel, inside and outside — BPA-free, durable and designed for daily use.
How long do mugs keep drinks hot and cold for?
6–12 hours depending on starting temperature and lid use. We recommend filling the cup with either hot or cold water before use for better results.
Are the mugs leak-proof?
Yes — the lids are spill-resistant and travel friendly.
Are the mugs dishwasher safe?
Yes. Handwashing is recommended for the longest life but the body can handle dishwasher.
What are the maps made from?
Our maps are made from premium PVC vinyl.
Will the sticker damage my surface?
Vanaway is not responsible for any damage caused by sticker application or removal. Test a small area first if unsure.
Are the maps easy to apply?
Yes. Just peel, place, and smooth out from the centre using the palm of your hands or a bank card. If you ever put on a phone screen protector, this will feel like a holiday. Remember, it is a one stick wonder so pick it's forever home carefully.
Can the maps be peeled off and re-applied?
They’re semi-permanent, designed for long-term adhesion. You may be able to reposition within seconds of placement, but not after long-term sticking.
Are the maps waterproof, oil- proof, and uv resistant?
Yes, yes and yes.
Can I write/draw on my map?
Of course, we recommend using a Sharpie.
What are your necklaces made from?
Every piece is handmade using:
• Freshwater pearls (if pearls are included in the design)
• High-quality beads
• 14k gold-plated spacers
• 18k gold-plated charms and findings
• Stainless steel wire for durability
Will necklaces tarnish?
They’re tarnish-resistant, but like all plated jewelry, they’ll last longest when kept away from harsh chemicals, saltwater, and constant moisture.
How do I care for my jewelry?
• Avoid perfumes, sunscreen, hairspray
• Remove before swimming or showering
• Store in a dry, soft pouch
• Wipe gently after wear
Why are necklaces "limited edition"?
Each necklace is handmade in tiny batches or one-offs. Once a design sells, it won’t return. Perfect for wanderers who love unique treasures.
Do you offer returns or exchanges on jewelry?
Due to hygiene reasons, jewelry is final sale unless faulty.
What length are your necklaces?
40-46cm. Check description of each product for details.
Is your necklaces suitable for sensitive skin types?
Most customers with sensitive skin can comfortably wear 18k-plated findings and stainless steel wire. If you’re highly reactive, check with a professional.
Do you have a retail store?
We hope to soon. At this stage we are e-commerce only.
Why is the packaging to your products so "basic"?
Fancy packaging cost more, fancy packaging ends up in the bin... we are almost literally throwing money away when we spend money on fancy packaging. We like to keep costs down... for you. Also, we care about our planet.
